Freshman third baseman Allison Oneacre set a new single-season runs batted in (RBI) record for Penn State softball during a 15-7 victory over Ohio State on April 18. The game, held at Buckeye Field in Columbus, saw Oneacre hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to reach her 55th RBI of the season, surpassing the previous mark of 53 set by teammate Brooke Klosowicz last year.
Oneacre’s achievement is significant as it places her atop the program’s all-time leaderboard for RBIs in a single season. She finished the game with three hits, three runs scored, and two home runs. With this performance, she also became the first player in program history to record three multiple-home run games in one season and is now tied for second-most home runs hit by a Penn State player in a single year.
Penn State improved its overall record to 28-16 and moved to 8-9 within Big Ten Conference play following this win. The team secured its first victory against Ohio State since their last run-rule win at home during the previous season and achieved its first road win against OSU since April 2022. Eight different Nittany Lions contributed hits during the game.
Klosowicz added five RBIs with a three-run homer and two-RBI single, maintaining her place as second on the roster for both home runs (13) and RBIs (48). Junior second baseman Michela Barbanente recorded two hits along with an RBI. Sophomore center fielder Natalie Lieto contributed another solo home run that helped spark Penn State’s decisive ten-run sixth inning.
On the pitching side, junior McKenna Young was credited with the win after holding Ohio State scoreless over one-and-a-third innings pitched. Freshman Mackenzie Duncan and rookie Brevyn Kellepouris also appeared from the bullpen to keep Ohio State from regaining momentum late in the contest.
The Nittany Lions will conclude their Big Ten series against Ohio State on Sunday afternoon at Buckeye Field. The matchup will be broadcast on Big Ten Network with additional streaming available through FOX Sports App.
