Davon Nelson, a 41-year-old from Baltimore, Maryland, was sentenced on May 19 to 18 months in prison for possessing a weapon while incarcerated at Allenwood Federal Correctional Institution. The sentencing was handed down by Chief United States District Judge Matthew W. Brann.
The case is significant as it underscores the efforts of federal authorities to address contraband and safety issues within correctional facilities. According to United States Attorney Brian D. Miller, Nelson was found with an inmate-made sharpened steel weapon measuring four and a half inches long on October 8, 2024.
“The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced that Davon Nelson, age 41, of Baltimore, MD, was sentenced by Chief United States District Judge Matthew W. Brann to 18 months in prison for possessing a weapon in prison,” Miller said.
The investigation into the incident involved both the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robin Zenzinger prosecuted the case.
