Rep. Brendan Boyle, a U.S. Congressman representing Pennsylvania’s 2nd district since 2015, marked the fifth anniversary of the January 6 Capitol attack with a series of posts on his Twitter account on January 6, 2026. Boyle reflected on the events of that day and called for renewed commitment to democratic principles.

In his first post, Boyle stated: “Five years ago today, Donald Trump incited a violent attack on the U.S. Capitol in an effort to overturn a free and fair election. More than 140 law enforcement officers were injured, and five officers lost their lives. (1/4)” (January 6, 2026).

He continued by addressing former President Trump’s actions following the attack: “Yet five years later, Trump continues to rewrite and sanitize history, including by pardoning more than 1,600 January 6 rioters and insurrectionists — dozens of whom have since committed additional crimes. (3/4)” (January 6, 2026).

Boyle concluded his series of tweets by emphasizing the importance of defending democratic values: “We cannot allow this assault on the truth to stand. As a nation, we must recommit ourselves to defending our democracy and ensuring that an attack like this never happens again. (4/4)” (January 6, 2026).

Brendan Boyle has represented Pennsylvania’s 2nd District in Congress since succeeding Allyson Schwartz in 2015; prior to that he served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2009 to 2015. Born in Philadelphia in 1977 and currently residing there, Boyle is also a graduate of the University of Notre Dame.
