Penn State junior Brooke Klosowicz was named the nation’s No. 10 overall third baseman by Softball America, according to a March 31 announcement from the university.
Klosowicz’s recognition adds to her growing list of individual honors this season and marks her first national ranking outside of the Utility/Designated Player category. The Johnsburg, Illinois native leads Penn State with a .383 batting average, recording 44 hits, scoring 30 runs, and hitting double-digit home runs for the second consecutive year with a total of 11 so far.
After moving from designated player to full-time starter at third base in recent weeks, Klosowicz has become a central figure in Penn State’s batting order. She ranks among the top-20 players in several offensive categories within the Big Ten Conference, including total hits, home runs, home runs per game, runs batted in (RBI), RBI per game, slugging percentage and total bases. Her career achievements also include holding the best career batting average in Penn State program history at .381. Additionally, she is among the top ten all-time at Penn State for doubles with 33 and ranks seventh for collegiate home runs with 24.
Klosowicz is one of four Big Ten student-athletes featured on Softball America’s midseason rankings for third basemen. Other players on the list include Bri Alejandre of UCLA (No.1), Giselle Alvarez of Washington (No.4), Rosie Davis of Oregon (No.11), Jaysoni Beachum of Florida State (No.2), Ella McDowell of Arkansas (No.3) and Jordan Lynch of Virginia Tech (No.5).
With Klosowicz playing a key role in their lineup, Penn State will face an important rivalry matchup against Pittsburgh on Tuesday night at Vartabedian Field in Pittsburgh starting at 6 p.m., marking their national television debut on ACC Network.
