Philadelphia Union announced on May 14 that homegrown player Cavan Sullivan scored his first Major League Soccer goal during a match against Orlando City SC. The goal made Sullivan the eighth youngest goalscorer in league history at 16 years and 227 days.
This achievement is notable because, in addition to scoring, Sullivan also provided an assist earlier in the match. This combination made him the second youngest player in MLS history to record at least one goal and one assist in a single game, following Freddy Adu who did so at age 15 years and 339 days.
Philadelphia Union features a roster of professional players on its main team, has achieved the Supporters’ Shield for best regular-season performance in Major League Soccer in 2020, and operates from Subaru Park—a soccer-specific stadium located on a waterfront site in Chester—with additional training facilities and practice fields, according to the official website.
The club functions as a professional soccer team within Major League Soccer, focusing on representing Philadelphia at an elite level while fostering fan involvement, youth programs, and community ties. It provides competitive matches along with tickets and team lineups for supporters as part of its entertainment offerings. The organization operates specifically within professional sports as part of Major League Soccer competition, according to the official website.
Sullivan’s milestone highlights both individual accomplishment and the club’s commitment to developing young talent within American soccer.
