Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia said on Apr. 16 that it is deeply saddened by the deaths of three construction workers following the structural collapse of a garage under construction in Grays Ferry. The hospital extended condolences to the families, loved ones, and members of Ironworkers Local Union 401 and the Philadelphia Building and Construction Trades Council.
The hospital acknowledged the significant role these unions have played in building facilities that support its mission. It also expressed gratitude to first responders, Mayor Cherelle L. Parker, and the City of Philadelphia for their efforts during rescue operations and for ensuring community safety.
“We are grateful to the first responders and to Mayor Cherelle L. Parker and the City of Philadelphia for their tireless efforts, exploring every possible rescue option and ensuring the safety of everyone impacted, including nearby neighbors and businesses,” Children’s Hospital said in its statement.
The hospital noted that there are questions about what will happen with the site but emphasized that its current priority is cooperating fully with government agencies investigating the cause of the incident.
“The loss of life is deeply felt here as we are constantly reminded how precious and fragile life is,” Children’s Hospital said.
