Rep. Bud Cook voted yes on April 30 for a bill that would allow the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association to create separate playoffs and championships for boundary and non-boundary schools.

The issue is important because it addresses concerns about fairness in student athletics, particularly between public and private schools. Cook said he supports the measure because he believes it ensures equal opportunities for all student athletes.

“My vote reflects my belief that all student athletes deserve a fair and even playing field in competition,” Cook said. “So often we see private schools are at an advantage because they can recruit athletes and create stronger, more competitive teams.”

Cook has also supported the Save Women’s Sports Act, which would prohibit biological males from participating in women’s sports. He said, “Just like men on women’s teams have an unfair competitive advantage, so do teams full of specially recruited athletes have an unfair competitive advantage over our public school teams.”

House Bill 41 will now move to the Senate for further consideration.

Cook represents Greene and Washington counties according to the official website. He holds the position of Pennsylvania State Representative for the 50th Legislative District according to the official website.

He leads the ‘Come Home, Go Big and Have a Ball’ initiative aimed at attracting residents to southwest Pennsylvania according to the official website. Cook serves as Republican secretary to the Agriculture Committee and chairs the Republican Subcommittee on Marketing within the Tourism Committee according to the official website.

Additionally, he serves on several committees including Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Environmental Resources and Energy, as well as Tourism and Economic and Recreational Development according to the official website. Cook operates as a self-employed business owner with more than three decades of experience in job creation according to the official website.
