Dr. Suyog A. Mokashi, Associate Professor of Surgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, discussed on Apr. 17 two studies he co-authored that were presented at the 2026 American College of Cardiology Scientific Sessions.
The research highlights regional differences in heart disease mortality rates and explores economic patterns related to coronary atherosclerosis treatment.
Mokashi said the first study focused on how socioeconomic factors contribute to varying heart disease mortality rates between the South and West regions of the United States. The second study analyzed long-term spending trends for coronary atherosclerosis, considering both broader U.S. economic changes and healthcare sector growth.
These studies provide new insight into how social determinants and economic trends affect cardiovascular health outcomes across different parts of the country.
Further details about these findings are expected to inform future strategies for addressing disparities in cardiac care.
