The Philadelphia Eagles announced on June 2 that they have signed running back Elijah Mitchell.
Mitchell participated in the team’s post-draft Rookie Camp on a tryout basis before being added to the roster. The 28-year-old is entering his sixth season in the National Football League. He was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the sixth round, number 194 overall, in 2021 out of Louisiana, where he earned first-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors in 2020.
During his four seasons with San Francisco, Mitchell rushed for 1,523 yards on 327 carries and scored nine touchdowns. His most productive year came as a rookie when he gained 963 yards and scored five touchdowns during the regular season. He also recorded an additional 169 rushing yards and one touchdown during that postseason. In his debut playoff game against Dallas, Mitchell contributed a team-high 96 rushing yards.
Last season, Mitchell signed with the Kansas City Chiefs and appeared in one game. Now joining Philadelphia’s roster, he will compete alongside four other running backs—Tank Bigsby, Saquon Barkley, Will Shipley, and Dameon Pierce—as well as fullback Carson Steele.
The Eagles operate as a professional American football team based in Philadelphia and entered the National Football League in 1933. They provide professional football games along with news coverage, media content, ticketing services, fan engagement opportunities, and extend their reach beyond their home city to a national audience through games and merchandising efforts, according to the official website.
