Amara Dukuly, a 43-year-old immigration officer from Brookhaven, Pennsylvania, has been arrested and charged with bribery of a public official. The charges were announced by United States Attorney David Metcalf. Dukuly, who worked for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), is accused of soliciting bribes in exchange for performing official acts.
According to the criminal complaint, Dukuly allegedly used his position at USCIS since around 2015 to obtain payments from individuals seeking adjustments to their immigration status. These adjustments included green cards, work authorization documents, or visas. However, it is alleged that Dukuly did not have the authority to fulfill these promises.
The complaint also states that Dukuly accepted money corruptly in return for being influenced in his official duties and used the bribe money for personal gain.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into this matter. Individuals with information about this case or other instances of government employees soliciting bribes are encouraged to contact Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Philadelphia at 1-866-347-2423.
The investigation is being conducted by the Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General, HSI, and the FBI. Assistant United States Attorney Anita Eve is prosecuting the case.
It is important to note that the charges in the criminal complaint are accusations at this stage. Every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
