Five foreign nationals have been sentenced in federal court for illegally reentering the United States after being previously deported, according to an announcement from U.S. Attorney David Metcalf.
Gerardo Antonio Estrada-Rios, a 28-year-old Honduran national, received an 18-month prison sentence from United States District Judge Mary Kay Costello. Estrada-Rios had been removed from the country three times before and was convicted of robbery with bodily injury in Houston, Texas, in 2022. After serving his latest sentence, he will be deported again.
Julio Cesar Concepcion, a 41-year-old Dominican national, was sentenced by United States District Judge Mark A. Kearney to 12 months and one day in prison. Concepcion had previously pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges involving heroin in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and was deported to the Dominican Republic in August 2021. He admitted to being in the U.S. illegally when ICE encountered him earlier this year.
Sean Christian, a Jamaican national aged 35, received a sentence of 12 months and one day along with two years of supervised release from United States District Judge Joseph F. Leeson Jr. Christian had been deported after a conviction for attempting to transport marijuana for sale in Arizona but reentered the country illegally.
Isaac Tapia Hernandez, a 35-year-old Mexican national, was sentenced by United States District Judge Kai N. Scott to ten months in prison following previous removals at the border near Laredo, Texas.
Geysi Enecon Aguilar Montoya, a Honduran national aged 41, was sentenced by United States District Judge Nitza I. Quiñones Alejandro to time served—about three months—for illegal reentry after having been removed four times previously.
“These cases are part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime,” said U.S. Attorney David Metcalf.
The investigations were conducted by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Nancy Potts, Robert Schopf, and Terri Marinari.
