State Representatives Jamie Flick and Joe Hamm announced on May 20 that the Lycoming Career and Technology Center will receive a $25,000 grant to improve its training programs and provide students with updated equipment. The funding will be used to purchase new equipment, including an ironworker, for classrooms in a new facility designed to meet increasing demand in the welding program.

The grant aims to help students gain practical skills necessary for employment after graduation. According to Flick, “We need to continue to give students in each career field the biggest opportunity to pursue a high-quality education that prepares them for success.” He also said, “I have helped secure funding for the Lycoming Career and Technology Center’s expansion of welding and other programs in the past, and I’m proud to see this funding reaffirm the Commonwealth’s confidence in the program.”

Hamm said he values expanding access to technical education. “Giving more students an opportunity to get into programs to receive excellent technical education is very important to me,” Hamm said. “Lycoming Career and Technology Center is producing the future workforce we need for critical jobs in our community, region and commonwealth. I was honored to support this funding for LycoCTC.”

The school is one of ten across Pennsylvania awarded money through the Manufacturing PA Training-to-Career Grant Program. The center is currently undergoing a multi-phase expansion project expected to add new programs such as welding and diesel technology, relocate early childhood education into its main facility, and increase capacity by about 150 students.

Flick represents the 83rd Legislative District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives; he was raised on his family’s farm, has six children—including two serving in the United States military—and has volunteered as a mentor for foster children according to the official website. He also founded Susquehanna Software—a human services software provider—and sponsored legislation aimed at reforming child custody laws.
