Rep. Jamie Flick announced on April 20 that he will host the fourth annual Human Services Expo and Speaker Series on Thursday, April 23, at the Pennsylvania College of Technology.
The event aims to provide residents with access to a range of human services and an opportunity to hear from leaders addressing critical issues such as the opioid crisis. The expo is free and features a lineup of speakers who will discuss ongoing efforts to combat substance abuse in the Commonwealth.
According to Flick, “It features a powerful lineup of speakers who will cover the opioid crisis, share survivors’ stories, and update everyone on what representatives are doing to combat the opioid and drug crisis in the Commonwealth.” The Speaker Series will include Rep. Doyle Heffley, Republican chair of the House Human Services Committee; Rep. Dan Williams, Democratic chair of the House Human Services Committee; Carolyn Miele, founder of Saving Lives for Zachary; Marc Lovecchio, attorney and former Lycoming County judge; Kevin McNamara, father who lost his son to an overdose; Kydreece Burks, Williamsport Area High School alumnus and current Penn State senior; and Shea Madden from West Branch Drug and Alcohol.
The Human Services Expo will offer information about services related to aging, autism support, behavioral health care, career development resources for youth and adults with diverse abilities (both physical and intellectual), early intervention programs for children, housing assistance initiatives including transportation support for independent living needs as well as medical assistance programs focusing on mental health treatment options plus parenting or custody help alongside substance abuse prevention efforts specifically tailored towards veterans’ needs among others.
Flick represents Pennsylvania’s 83rd Legislative District in the state House where he oversees committees related to government operations as well as human service delivery while supporting economic growth policies aimed at strengthening families.
