Four men, all foreign nationals, were sentenced this week in Philadelphia for illegally reentering the United States after previous deportations, according to U.S. Attorney David Metcalf.
Kevin Emmanuel Rodriguez-Martinez, 32, a Honduran national, received a sentence of time served—just over two months—from United States District Judge Catherine Henry. Rodriguez-Martinez had been previously removed from the U.S. in September 2011 and November 2012 after encounters with U.S. Border Patrol in Texas. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) discovered his unlawful return in May this year and located him in Allentown, Pennsylvania, in June. He pleaded guilty to illegal reentry and will be removed from the country again.
Osman Guevara-Guevara, 35, also a Honduran national, was sentenced by United States District Judge Joseph F. Leeson Jr. to time served of about two and a half months. Guevara-Guevara had been removed to Honduras in April 2012 after being arrested near Seattle by ICE and then again in April 2013 following another arrest by U.S. Border Patrol in Texas. Earlier this year, he was taken into custody by ICE after an arrest by Phoenixville Police Department in Pennsylvania and later pleaded guilty to illegal reentry.
Jorge Miles, 30, a Mexican national, was sentenced by United States District Judge Mary Kay Costello to eight months in prison for illegal reentry. Miles had previously been deported in March 2014 after pleading guilty to robbery following an arrest by East Norriton Township Police Department. He was apprehended earlier this year by ICE following another local police arrest and subsequently pleaded guilty.
Yobani Bonilla-Bonilla, also known as Gilberto Perez Alvarado, 40, a Honduran national, received a sentence of time served—almost two months—from Judge Henry for illegal reentry. Bonilla-Bonilla had previously been deported from the U.S. in June 2015 after being encountered by Border Patrol agents in Texas. In May of this year, ICE learned he was residing in Easton, Pennsylvania and that there was an active arrest warrant for him in Honduras. He was located and taken into custody with assistance from HSI and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), later pleading guilty.
“These cases are part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime,” said Metcalf. “Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN).”
The cases were investigated by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, HSI, and DEA. Assistant United States Attorneys Rosalynda M. Michetti, Rebecca Kulik, and Shayna Gannone prosecuted these cases.
