United States Attorney David Metcalf has announced that David Easley, a 39-year-old from Georgia, has pleaded guilty to evading airport security at Philadelphia International Airport. The plea was entered before United States District Judge Gail A. Weilheimer.
Easley faced charges stemming from an incident in May where he used an airline employee’s identification badge to access a secured area of the airport, bypassing standard security protocols. It was confirmed that Easley had no employment history with the Philadelphia International Airport.
Court documents and statements revealed that on March 9, 2024, Easley was scheduled for a flight from Philadelphia to Atlanta at 7:05 p.m. Surveillance footage showed him using a Secure Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge belonging to an airport employee to enter secure doors without undergoing TSA screening.
Easley accessed a restricted area meant for employees located between the public ticketing area and the post-security terminal. He later moved into the public “sterile” terminal area where passengers board their flights after security checks. TSA officials encountered Easley during random inspections aimed at preventing unauthorized access.
Sentencing for Easley is set for October 28, 2025. The FBI conducted the investigation, and Assistant United States Attorney Priya De Souza is prosecuting the case.
