A Guatemalan citizen has been sentenced to 60 days in prison and will be removed from the United States following his conviction for illegal reentry, according to an announcement by Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.

Domingo Gonzalez Perez, 43, received his sentence on August 20, 2025, from United States District Judge J. Nicholas Ranjan. Court records indicate that Gonzalez Perez has attempted to enter or has entered the country illegally four times and has been present in the U.S. without authorization since at least October 2024 after a previous removal.

Local law enforcement arrested Gonzalez Perez on October 9, 2024, on a domestic assault charge. In April 2025, while awaiting trial in state court and with an active federal arrest warrant, he was taken into custody by Pennsylvania State Police in Bedford County on charges of driving under the influence and evading arrest. He has remained in custody since that time and will be transferred to immigration authorities for removal upon completion of his federal sentence.

Assistant United States Attorney V. Joseph Sonson prosecuted the case for the government.

Acting United States Attorney Rivetti said: “Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Pennsylvania State Police are commended for their investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Gonzalez Perez.”

The prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, which aims to eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations as well as address illegal immigration through coordinated efforts by the Department of Justice.
