A Guatemalan national, Esvin Emilio Lopez-Gonzalez, 27, has been sentenced to time served after pleading guilty to illegally reentering the United States following a previous removal. The sentencing was announced by Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti in Pittsburgh.

Senior United States District Judge Joy Flowers Conti delivered the sentence. Court records indicate that Lopez-Gonzalez was removed from the country on May 7, 2018, after entering illegally through Arizona. On May 28, 2025, he was found by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and could not provide identification. Immigration authorities later confirmed that he had not received permission to reenter the U.S. after his prior removal and was present in the country unlawfully.

Lopez-Gonzalez has remained in custody since his arrest in May and will now be transferred back to immigration authorities for removal proceedings.

Assistant United States Attorney Rebecca L. Silinski led the prosecution for this case.

“Acting United States Attorney Rivetti commended U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Lopez-Gonzalez.”

The case falls under Operation Take Back America, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations, addressing illegal immigration issues, and protecting communities from violent crime.
