Rep. Doyle Heffley announced on May 27 that he will host a Revolutionary War Veterans Memorial Program to honor those who fought for the nation’s independence and to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. The event is scheduled for Sunday, May 31 at 5 p.m. at the Col. Jacob Weiss statue in Lehighton’s Lower Park on North First Street.

“Without the brave actions of the soldiers in the Revolutionary War, we would not enjoy the freedoms we have today,” Heffley said. “I am looking forward to hosting this event and am honored to help remember these heroes from right here in Carbon County, including Col. Weiss, who is buried here.”

The program will include a color guard from the Lehighton United Veterans Organization and will feature a reading of names of all soldiers from Carbon County, or those buried there, who served in the Revolutionary War. The ceremony is being organized with assistance from the Carbon County America 250 PA Committee.

“It would only be appropriate that we recognize the actions of those from Carbon County and their contributions to the Revolutionary War which ultimately led to the founding of our great nation,” Kim Werley, Carbon County America 250 PA advisor, said.

Heffley provides dedicated public service through community engagement and constituent assistance in Carbon County; he serves in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for the 122nd Legislative District and resides with his wife Kellie in Palmerton. He graduated from Lehighton Area High School in 1989 and earned an associate degree from Lincoln Technical Institute; he also served on the Lower Towamensing Planning Commission, according to the official website.
