Motorists in Montour County should be aware of ongoing work on the Route 54 corridor near the intersection with Route 642. The project, which is expected to continue through fall 2029, involves realignment and signalization at the intersection, bridge improvements, and other upgrades.

During the week of June 30, 2025, contractors will focus on shoulder work along both directions of Route 54. Traffic control measures include the closure of Church Hill Road and Red Roof Road at their intersections with Route 54. A detour is in place using Jerseytown Road (Route 642), Bogart Road, Red Roof Road, and Sheraton Road.

New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co., Inc. is leading this $29.8 million project. In addition to intersection improvements, work includes replacing the bridge deck over Mahoning Creek, substructure repairs, pavement repairs, widening, resurfacing, line painting, and sign upgrades.

A temporary barrier restricts traffic to an 11-foot width along Route 54 between Old Valley School Road and Jerseytown Road. The project aims to enhance safety and traffic flow in the area.
