Jake Livanavage will make his National Hockey League debut for the Pittsburgh Penguins in their final game of the 2025-26 season on Tuesday in St. Louis, the team announced on Apr. 14. Livanavage signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the Penguins after his North Dakota Fighting Hawks were eliminated from the Frozen Four tournament.

The signing marks an important moment for both Livanavage and the team as he transitions from college hockey to professional play. The Penguins are known for their history of notable figures including Hall of Fame players, coaches and executives, according to the official website.

Livanavage described his excitement about joining Pittsburgh: “I’m sure there’ll be nerves and a lot of emotions going on, but just try to enjoy it,” he said. “Be a part of this group for tonight, and try and help the team win.” He added that choosing Pittsburgh was influenced by their focus on player development: “I just think the development that they have, and the coaching staff and management and everything, they really care about their players here. All my meetings with them were unbelievable. So, just felt comfortable right away.”

He also reflected on his childhood memories attending Penguins games as a fan: “Yeah, I was going to a Penguins-Coyotes game in Arizona…I had a Penguins jersey on and a sign for Crosby to come play knee hockey…Got to meet Malkin and Crosby.” Now playing alongside those he once admired highlights how far he has come.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have achieved numerous playoff appearances and division titles over their history according to information from their official website. The organization is considered an integral part of Pittsburgh’s sports culture with strong fan traditions and community ties as reported by its official site.

Home games are hosted at PPG Paints Arena in downtown Pittsburgh according to details available through the team’s website. The franchise is owned by Fenway Sports Group which manages its business operations per information provided by its official page.

As Livanavage prepares for his first NHL appearance, he looks forward not only to contributing defensively but also drawing inspiration from former idols such as Sidney Crosby: “It was pretty intimidating [Laughs]. He’s just such a legend of the game…it was awesome to talk to him.” His journey underscores both personal achievement and ongoing renewal within one of hockey’s most recognized franchises.
