Former Philadelphia Eagles player LeSean McCoy retired from the NFL last Sunday after playing for 12 years, according to ABC 27 News.
“I try to look at the good from the bad, and if the good outweighs the bad, I’m okay with that,” McCoy said in June during a Sports Extra Podcast discussing his potential retirement. “When I say bad, not like something will happen, but just like if I don’t play, what is the worst that can happen if I don’t play? I might miss it. I’ve never done it. That’s the biggest thing thing, since I was like 5 or 4, I’ve been playing ball every year. So it’s just something that you take out of your life that’s always been there. It’s all about adjusting, and I’ll see what happens.”
McCoy played for the Eagles as a running back. His official last game was against the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 3. This was the result of his signing a one-day contract with the Eagles to be able to retire as a member of the team.
Thirty-two-year-old McCoy has 11,102 career rushing yards and 73 touchdowns, as well as 3,898 yards on 518 receptions with 16 receiving touchdowns in 12 seasons. He played for two Super Bowl-winning teams during his career and was voted to six Pro Bowl teams by NFL fans, according to ABC 27 News. McCoy is a Pennsylvania native, growing up near Harrisburg and being drafted by the Eagles in the second round of the NFL draft in 2009.
McCoy is the Eagles’ franchise all-time leading rusher, and he led the NFL in rushing yards during his 2013 season. The Eagles traded McCoy to the Buffalo Bills in 2015. He later played one season each with the Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
