Maelie Monfils of Penn State women’s tennis was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Apr. 15 after an undefeated weekend competing against Indiana and Purdue.

This recognition highlights Monfils’ recent performance, where she contributed to both singles and doubles victories that boosted her team’s standing in conference play.

Monfils, alongside partner Dorner, secured two ranked doubles wins on court one. The pair defeated Indiana’s No. 84 Alessandra Teodosescu and Hiiliani Williams with a score of 6-4, then went on to beat Purdue’s No. 55 Ida Clement and Ece Gencer by a margin of 6-1. These matches marked their fifth and sixth ranked wins as a team.

The duo was recently ranked No. 89 in the ITA doubles poll and holds a record of six wins against ranked opponents since the start of the fall season. In dual matches played at court one, they have an overall record of eight wins and three losses.

In singles play, Monfils claimed victory over Teodosescu with scores of 6-3, 6-4 on court one. This brings her total to six singles victories this spring season at the top position, including two in Big Ten competition.

Penn State will return home for its final regular season weekend facing No. 22 Washington on Friday at 4 p.m., followed by Oregon at 11 a.m. Sunday for Senior Day.
