A McKees Rocks resident has pleaded guilty in federal court to possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon, according to an announcement from First Assistant United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.
Robert Schatzman, 21, entered his plea before United States District Judge Christy Criswell Wiegand. He admitted to one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.
The court was informed that on April 29, 2025, law enforcement officers found a Glock 23 .40 caliber pistol and ammunition hidden in an air vent on the floor of Schatzman’s bedroom while executing a search warrant at his home. Prior to this incident, Schatzman had been convicted of robbery in the Court of Common Pleas of Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. Federal law prohibits individuals with felony convictions from possessing firearms or ammunition.
Judge Wiegand set sentencing for March 23, 2026. The charge carries a maximum sentence of up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The actual sentence will depend on the seriousness of the offense and Schatzman’s prior criminal history under federal Sentencing Guidelines.
Assistant United States Attorney Kelly M. Locher is prosecuting the case. The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
This prosecution falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative designed to reduce violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. In May 2021, the Department launched an updated violent crime reduction strategy for PSN that emphasizes building trust within communities, supporting organizations that work to prevent violence, focusing enforcement efforts strategically, and measuring results (https://www.justice.gov/psn).
