MD Munsur Ali, a former member of the Millbourne Borough Council, has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for election fraud offenses. United States District Judge Harvey Bartle III also imposed a one-year supervised release and a $2,500 special assessment on Ali.

In February, Ali and co-conspirators MD Nurul Hasan and MD Rafikul Islam were charged with conspiracy to commit voter fraud and other related offenses. Their scheme aimed to manipulate the 2021 mayoral election in Millbourne Borough in favor of Hasan.

Ali pleaded guilty in April to all charges against him, including conspiracy and multiple counts of giving false information in registering to vote. His co-conspirators also pleaded guilty to their respective charges.

Hasan was sentenced last week to 36 months’ imprisonment, while Islam received a sentence of 12 months and one day.

The fraudulent activities involved using personal identification information of non-Millbourne residents to register them as voters within the borough. The defendants then cast ballots on behalf of these individuals during the general election.

U.S. Attorney David Metcalf emphasized the importance of public trust in elections: “These defendants sabotaged the democratic will of their fellow citizens.” FBI Special Agent Wayne A. Jacobs stated that such actions compromise trust between public officials and citizens.

Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer expressed gratitude for the collaboration with federal agencies in bringing those responsible to justice.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI and Delaware County District Attorney’s Office, with prosecution led by Assistant United States Attorney Mark B. Dubnoff.
