A federal grand jury in Pittsburgh has indicted Anthony Crews, a 52-year-old resident of Monessen, Pennsylvania, on charges related to narcotics and firearms offenses. The announcement was made by First Assistant United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.
The indictment alleges that on or about June 25, 2025, Crews possessed crack cocaine with the intent to distribute it. He is also accused of possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and of illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon. According to the indictment, Crews has prior convictions for state aggravated assault, drug trafficking, and firearm offenses, as well as a previous federal conviction for drug trafficking. Federal law prohibits individuals with felony convictions from possessing firearms or ammunition.
If convicted on all counts, Crews faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison and could receive up to life imprisonment. He may also be subject to fines totaling up to $5.5 million. Sentencing will be determined based on the seriousness of the crimes and his criminal history under federal guidelines.
Assistant United States Attorney V. Joseph Sonson is prosecuting the case. The investigation leading to the indictment was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pennsylvania State Police.
This prosecution falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative designed to reduce violent crime and gun violence through cooperation among law enforcement agencies and community groups. The Department of Justice launched an updated violent crime reduction strategy for PSN on May 26, 2021, focusing on building trust within communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, prioritizing targeted enforcement actions, and tracking results.
