A federal grand jury in Pittsburgh has indicted William Jermaine Rodgers III, a 28-year-old resident of New Kensington, Pennsylvania, on charges of violating federal firearms law. The announcement was made by First Assistant United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.
The indictment alleges that on or about July 1, 2025, Rodgers possessed a firearm and ammunition despite being a previously convicted felon. Federal law prohibits individuals with felony convictions from possessing firearms or ammunition.
If convicted, Rodgers faces a maximum sentence of up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentencing would be determined based on the seriousness of the offense and Rodgers’ prior criminal history according to federal guidelines.
Assistant United States Attorney Kelly M. Locher is prosecuting the case. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office.
“An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty,” stated the release.
This indictment was issued following a 43-day government shutdown during which it occurred.
