A New York resident has admitted guilt in a federal court to charges related to the sexual exploitation of a minor. Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti confirmed the plea.
Kyle Thomas Samsel, 35, from Auburn, New York, entered his guilty plea before United States District Judge Susan Paradise Baxter. The court was informed that Samsel traveled across several states in October 2020 intending to engage in criminal sexual activity with a minor.
Judge Baxter has scheduled the sentencing for November 13, 2025. According to federal law, Samsel faces a maximum sentence of up to 30 years in prison and a potential fine of $250,000. The actual sentence will depend on the severity of the offense and Samsel’s prior criminal history.
Assistant United States Attorney Christian A. Trabold is leading the prosecution on behalf of the government. The investigation that led to Samsel’s prosecution was conducted by multiple agencies including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Pennsylvania State Police, City of Cleveland Division of Police in Ohio, and Webster Police Department in New York.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative started by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. It involves collaboration between federal, state, and local resources to prosecute offenders and rescue victims. More information about Project Safe Childhood can be found at www.justice.gov/psc.
