Naquan Simmons, a 31-year-old resident of Bronx, New York, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for making false statements in connection with the acquisition of firearms. The sentencing was handed down by Senior United States District Judge Malachy E. Mannion on November 24, 2025.
According to United States Attorney Brian D. Miller, Simmons traveled to a gun store in Wilkes-Barre Township, Luzerne County on September 22, 2022, accompanied by a woman who had an opioid use disorder. The woman purchased two firearms under her name on behalf of Simmons, who was legally barred from buying guns. In exchange for the firearms, Simmons provided the woman with heroin. One of these firearms was later recovered in Bronx, New York.
On August 15, 2023, Simmons entered another gun store in Plains Township, Luzerne County with a man he was supplying with crack cocaine. The man tried to purchase a firearm under his own name for Simmons but did not receive it due to intervention by law enforcement.
At the time these offenses occurred, Simmons was already under federal supervised release in the Southern District of New York following convictions for conspiracy to commit racketeering and using a firearm during a violent crime.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Luzerne County Drug Task Force conducted the investigation into this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jenny P. Roberts led the prosecution.
