The No. 21 Penn State Nittany Lions will travel to College Park, Maryland, to play the undefeated No. 3 Maryland Terrapins on March 29 at SECU Stadium.
This game is significant as both teams are ranked and competing for position in the Big Ten Conference standings. Penn State enters with a record of nine wins and two losses overall, while Maryland holds an unbeaten record at eleven wins.
Penn State’s offense is among the top twenty nationally in several categories, including assists per game, points per game, scoring offense, and shot percentage. Within the Big Ten, they are also highly ranked in these areas and have strong defensive statistics such as being second-best in scoring defense and ground balls picked up.
In their most recent outing, Penn State lost to No. 6 Michigan by a score of 6-11. Kelly MacKinney and Delaney Radin led with three points each during that match. Goalkeeper Sydney Manning surpassed her career milestone of three hundred saves against Michigan and currently holds the ninth-best save percentage nationally.
Delaney Radin was recently named to the Tewaaraton Watch List after setting new single-season career highs across multiple offensive categories this season. She leads the Big Ten in assists and ranks eighth nationally in that statistic. MacKinney has also had a standout season with personal bests for goals scored and assists.
Freshman Rocquette Allen earned her third consecutive Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor earlier this month—a first for a Penn State player since April last year—and is currently second on her team with twenty-five goals this season.
Maryland comes into Sunday’s matchup following a win over Johns Hopkins that kept their perfect record intact. The Terrapins’ offense features several players with more than twenty goals each while goalkeeper JJ Suriano leads the nation with a save percentage above fifty-four percent.
