Kanyhi Roberson, age 32, of Charlotte, North Carolina, was sentenced on May 19 to four months in prison for providing contraband to a federal inmate. The sentence was handed down by Chief United States District Judge Matthew W. Brann.

The case highlights ongoing efforts by federal authorities to address the introduction of illegal substances into correctional facilities. According to United States Attorney Brian D. Miller, Roberson visited an acquaintance at the Federal Correctional Complex – Allenwood in August 2022. During the visit, she prepared a food item and passed it along with several napkins to the inmate. Corrections officers observed suspicious behavior when the inmate placed the napkins against his face and subsequently discovered 75 strips of Suboxone concealed in his cheek.

Roberson previously pleaded guilty in December 2025. The Bureau of Prisons and the Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated this matter, while Assistant United States Attorney Geoffrey W. MacArthur prosecuted the case.

The U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania handles prosecutions of federal crimes, civil litigation for the government and victim assistance programs across a region serving about 3.2 million residents and covering over 21,900 square miles according to its official website. The office also promotes community safety through initiatives like Project Safe Neighborhoods and re-entry services that reduce recidivism.

The sentencing reflects continued vigilance against contraband smuggling within correctional institutions as part of broader efforts by federal authorities operating under the Department of Justice according to its official website.
