The Pennsylvania House Republicans have announced that Representative Kristin Marcell is championing HB 928, a bill focused on enhancing emergency readiness for children with food allergies.
According to a post shared by the Pennsylvania House Republican Caucus on X, nearly six million children in the United States suffer from food allergies. Representative Kristin Marcell, who “understands first hand the severity” as a mother, has championed HB 928, which successfully passed the Pennsylvania House. Her personal experience underscores why she views the issue with urgency and advocates for preparing childcare settings for emergencies. The post frames this legislative achievement as a meaningful step toward ensuring safety for vulnerable children.
The official Pennsylvania House Republican Caucus reported that HB 928, known as Pennsylvania’s version of “Elijah’s Law,” passed the state House overwhelmingly. The bill mandates that childcare staff undergo training in recognizing and responding to anaphylaxis, have emergency action plans, and stock epinephrine delivery systems in facilities for quick response. This development reflects widespread bipartisan support focused on reducing the risk of life-threatening allergic reactions in childcare environments.
According to the Kids With Food Allergies blog, affiliated with the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, HB 928 in Pennsylvania—called Elijah’s Law—was introduced by Representatives Bridget Kosierowski and Marcell and co-sponsored by over 30 legislators, reflecting broad legislative interest. The blog explains that Elijah’s Law is named in memory of a child who died from anaphylaxis and is designed to ensure childcare providers are equipped to manage allergic emergencies. The Children & Youth Committee unanimously passed the bill (26–0), signaling strong support at the early stage of the legislative process.
