Penn men’s heavyweight rowing to compete in IRA National Championship Regatta in California

The University of Pennsylvania men’s heavyweight rowing team is set to travel to Gold River, California, for the Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championship Regatta, according to a May 28 announcement. The regatta will be held on the Natoma River from May 29 through May 31.

Penn will send three Eights and a Four to compete at the event. The Eights are scheduled for heats on Friday morning, while the Four will participate in a time trial that same morning to determine semifinal seedings later in the day. Finals for the Fours are slated for Saturday, with Eights finals following on Sunday.

Friday’s schedule includes Penn racing against Washington, Brown, Drexel, Temple, and Oregon State in the first heat of the Varsity Eight at 8:16 a.m. In Heat Three of the Second Varsity Eight at 9:20 a.m., Penn will face Harvard, Northeastern, Navy, Holy Cross, and Oregon State. The Third Varsity Eight heat at 9:36 a.m. includes California, Northeastern, and Navy among others competing alongside Penn. At 11:30 a.m., Penn’s Four is listed as boat number sixteen out of twenty-nine entries in its time trial.

The regatta offers live results and coverage online throughout the weekend.

The Intercollegiate Rowing Association National Championship Regatta serves as one of collegiate rowing’s premier events each year.
