The Penn Quakers men’s baseball team will travel to West Long Branch, New Jersey, on April 15 for a non-conference matchup against Monmouth University. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m., following a week in which the Quakers recorded four consecutive wins, including a sweep of Cornell and a victory over Lafayette in the Liberty Bell Classic semifinal.

This upcoming contest holds significance as Penn looks to extend its current six-game winning streak and improve its standing in the Ivy League. The team currently sits third in conference play with an 8-4 record through twelve games, trailing only Yale and Brown.

Infielder Jay Secretarski and senior co-captain Thomas Shurtleff received Ivy League honors this week as Rookie of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. Secretarski earned his first conference award after collecting five hits and seven runs batted in during last week’s games. Shurtleff was recognized for his performance against Cornell, where he pitched six shutout innings with seven strikeouts. “The freshman claimed the first conference laurel of his career following a five-hit and seven-RBI week that included the second home run of his Quaker career,” according to Penn Athletics.

Statistically, Secretarski leads Penn with a .280 batting average and has accumulated 30 hits along with 17 stolen bases this season. Junior Gavin Degnan tops several offensive categories for the team while Nick Spaventa remains tied for most home runs in the Ivy League at six. On pitching, Shurtleff’s season ERA stands at 3.60—fifth best among conference peers—and upperclassmen Marty Coyne and Jake Moss also contributed wins last weekend.

Monmouth enters Wednesday’s game atop its Colonial Athletic Association North division with a record of 19-13 overall (14-4 CAA). The Hawks feature six hitters batting above .300 this year but have allowed opponents an average batting mark of .311—the highest among their league rivals.

Penn Quakers Men’s Baseball competes at the NCAA Division I level as part of intercollegiate athletics at University of Pennsylvania according to their official website. The team is a member of the Ivy League and hosts home games at Tommy Lasorda Field at Meiklejohn Stadium according to university sources.
