The University of Pennsylvania softball team ended its 2026 season with a 5-4 loss to Brown in Providence on May 2.

The game marked the conclusion of the Quakers’ campaign, as they attempted a late comeback but ultimately fell short. The result closed out a season highlighted by individual performances and determined efforts from the team.

Gigi Ganje and Jade Montgomery each recorded two hits in their final games of the year. Senior Roisin Keenan made her first start of the season and reached base on a walk. Peyton Heisler contributed as a pinch hitter, delivering a two-run single that helped Penn narrow the deficit late in the game.

Brown took an early lead with Abby Bettencourt hitting a three-run home run in the first inning, followed by additional runs in the second and third innings. Despite trailing 5-0 after three innings, Penn responded with runs from Delaney Smith—who set a new record with her forty-fifth RBI—and Montgomery’s run-scoring single. Heisler’s pinch-hit single brought in two more runs for Penn, but it was not enough to overcome Brown’s lead.

The Quakers were unable to add another run before time expired, ending their season on a competitive note.
