Penn State announced on May 2 the signing of Brant Byers to its men’s basketball program for the 2026-27 season. Byers, a native of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, is transferring from Miami (Ohio) and will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Byers played a key role in Miami’s undefeated regular season in 2025-26 and was named the Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year in 2024-25. His addition brings experience and shooting ability to Penn State’s roster as he returns to his home state.
Byers arrives at Penn State as a redshirt junior after three years at Miami (Ohio), including one redshirt year. Over two completed seasons, he scored 770 points while shooting 48.5 percent from the field, 40.1 percent from three-point range, and 77.6 percent from the free throw line.
During the most recent season, Byers was Miami’s second-leading scorer with averages of 14.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per game while shooting nearly forty percent from beyond the arc. He earned second-team All-District and All-MAC honors and recorded six games with more than twenty points among twenty-seven double-digit scoring performances. In NCAA Tournament play, he contributed nineteen points and four rebounds during Miami’s first-round win over SMU.
In his redshirt freshman campaign, Byers averaged over eight points per game with strong shooting percentages that placed him third in conference three-point accuracy rankings. He also earned Academic All-MAC honors twice during his college career so far.
Before college, Byers attended Perkiomen School where he helped secure a Pennsylvania state championship in high school basketball.
