Penn State athletes delivered strong performances at the Bison Outdoor Classic on April 11, with several competitors setting or matching program records during the first day of competition.
The results highlight notable achievements for the Nittany Lions as multiple team members improved their standings in school history. These performances reflect ongoing progress within Penn State’s track and field program.
Nick Sloff ran the men’s 1500-meter in 3:39.56, marking the fifth-fastest time ever recorded by a Penn State athlete and surpassing the previous mark by just one hundredth of a second. Ryan Watson also made history in the same event, finishing with a time of 3:40.35, which stands as eighth-best all-time for the school. In field events, Hannah Riolo won the women’s high jump at 5-10.75 (1.80m), tying Erika Morgan for seventh-best in program history; her teammate Gwen Cudmore placed second at 5-7.00 (1.70m).
Other highlights included Kyle Moore winning gold in the men’s long jump with a leap of 23-8.75 (7.23m) and Joe White taking third place at 23-5.25 (7.14m). Sasha Garnett led Penn State’s throwers by winning women’s shot put with a mark of 52-4.50 (15.96m), while Skye Petrie-Cameron finished fifth.
On the track, Ada Rand finished second in the women’s 800-meter run with a personal record of 2:06.96; Sarah Pickering was third and Lea Hatcher fifth—both also achieving personal bests in that race category for Penn State runners.
