Penn State athletes set records on second day of Florida Relays

Penn State track and field athletes set new program records and achieved several top finishes at the Florida Relays, according to an April 4 announcement from the university.

The event was notable for strong performances by both sprinters and field competitors. Ajani Dwyer broke the Penn State record in the men’s 100-meter dash with a time of 10.06 seconds, surpassing the previous mark of 10.10 set by Cheickna Traore in 2024. In the women’s 100-meter dash, Marie-ƉloĆÆse LeClair finished with a time of 11.56 seconds, tying her for fourth-fastest in program history alongside Kamilah Salaam.

In field events, freshman Bryce Thompson secured second place in the men’s shot put collegiate competition with a throw of 60-3.00 (18.36 meters). In the men’s shot put invite section, Ryan Henry recorded a distance of 62-1.00 (18.92 meters), moving him to eighth-best all-time at Penn State, while Dylan Lambrecht posted a mark that placed him tenth on the school’s list at 61-10.25 (18.85 meters).

Women also found success in shot put as Sasha Garnett took fifth place with a throw of 52-10.00 (16.10 meters) and Skye Petrie-Cameron finished tenth at 49-1.50 (14.97 meters). On the track, Tayissa Buchanan ran a personal best in the women’s 800-meter run at 2:04.37—good for sixth-fastest all-time at Penn State—just ahead of teammate Allison Johnson who clocked in at 2:05.29.

Four Nittany Lions earned top ten spots in the men’s 800-meter run led by Yukichi Ishii’s fifth-place finish at 1:46.91; Andrew Regnier, Kaleb Nastari and Niko Schultz rounded out eighth through tenth places respectively.

Jake Palermo improved his own third-best program time to finish third overall in the men’s 400-meter dash with a time of 45.29 seconds while Peyton Sommers completed his race in under forty-eight seconds as well; Trip Campbell placed fourth overall in high jump clearing six feet eight inches.

Looking ahead, Penn State will compete next at Bucknell University during their Bison Outdoor Classic beginning Saturday, AprilĀ 11.
