The Penn State baseball team defeated Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) 11-5 on April 7 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park, with Michael Anderson and Bryce Molinaro each recording three hits, including a double and a triple.
The game drew over two thousand fans as part of the team’s popular Dollar Dog Night promotion. The Nittany Lions improved their season record to 9-21, while FDU dropped to 19-10. Penn State is now undefeated in two Dollar Dog Nights this year and has posted a strong record during these events since last season. Fans consumed nearly five thousand hot dogs during the game.
Mason Horwat started for Penn State, pitching one and two-thirds innings with three runs allowed on three hits, along with three strikeouts. The bullpen kept FDU scoreless over the final five innings, highlighted by Robert Brown III’s two perfect innings with four strikeouts to earn the win. Ethan Bauerschmidt closed out the ninth inning without allowing a run.
Offensively, Penn State collected fifteen hits. Molinaro contributed two runs batted in (RBI) and scored twice, while Anderson also drove in a run and scored twice. Spencer Barnett and Jayden Davis each added two RBI. Joey DeMucci stole three bases as part of six total steals by four different Nittany Lions.
For FDU, Jimmy Mantuano had one hit and drove in two runs; Hunter Ray and Jeremy Delamota both recorded RBI doubles. Starting pitcher Chris Mattioli allowed eight runs (seven earned) across his outing for FDU.
Penn State will next travel to Columbus for a three-game series against Ohio State from April 10 through April 12.
