The Penn State baseball team overcame a five-run deficit to secure a 10-6 victory over Ohio State in the series opener on April 10 at Bill Davis Stadium. Home runs from Michael Anderson and Bryce Molinaro helped the Nittany Lions take the lead, while Kevin Karstetter added a three-run homer for insurance.
This win brings Penn State’s record to 10-21 overall and 4-9 in Big Ten play. Ohio State now stands at 17-15 overall with a conference record of 7-6.
Penn State’s pitching staff allowed only one run and five hits over the final seven and two-thirds innings. Colin Fitzgerald started for Penn State, pitching five innings and giving up five runs on seven hits but held Ohio State scoreless over his last three and two-thirds frames. Ben DeMell earned the win with a scoreless inning, tying Anthony Steele for seventh-most pitching appearances in program history with his seventieth outing. Dimond Loosli contributed two-thirds of an inning, allowing one run, while Kyle Emmons closed out with two and one-third shutout innings to pick up the save.
Offensively, Michael Anderson collected three hits—including two doubles and a home run—driving in three runs and scoring twice. His solo home run was his fourteenth of the season, tying him for sixth most in a single season at Penn State. Karstetter also had three hits including a triple and a homerun, scoring three times. Molinaro hit his thirty-third career home run to tie for third all-time at Penn State.
Ohio State managed six runs on ten hits, highlighted by Miles Vandenheuvel’s three-run homer. Noah Furcht added another solo shot early in the game.
The series will continue Saturday at 3 p.m., concluding Sunday at 1 p.m., with both games available via streaming.
