The Penn State baseball team lost both games of a Saturday doubleheader against No. 19 Nebraska at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park, according to an April 4 report. The Nittany Lions were narrowly defeated in the first game, 8-7, after holding early leads of 5-1 and 7-3 before Nebraska rallied in the later innings. In the second game, Penn State fell by a score of 13-1 in seven innings.

These results leave Penn State with an overall record of 8-20 and a Big Ten conference record of 3-8. Nebraska improved its season tally to 25-6 overall and holds a strong conference record at 10-1.

In the opening matchup, Colin Fitzgerald started for Penn State on the mound, pitching for just under three innings and allowing three runs while striking out three batters. Offensively, Bryce Molinaro and Justin Turcovski each hit two-run home runs for the Nittany Lions. Molinaro’s home run was his thirty-second career homer, tying him for fourth all-time at Penn State; he also matched sixth place on PSU’s all-time RBI list with his one hundred twenty-eighth run batted in.

Nebraska’s offense was led by Mac Moyer with three hits—including a home run—and Jett Buck who added another solo homer. Tucker Timmerman pitched four scoreless relief innings for Nebraska to help secure their comeback victory.

In game two, Ben Hudson started for Penn State but allowed eight runs over three innings as Nebraska took control early with a grand slam from Jett Buck in the first inning. Carson Jasa pitched a complete game for Nebraska, striking out eleven while giving up only one run on four hits across seven innings.
