The Penn State baseball team lost 8-6 to No. 19 Nebraska on April 5 at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park. The Nittany Lions made a late push in the ninth inning but were unable to overcome Nebraska’s lead.
This game marked Penn State’s third loss in the Big Ten, bringing their overall record to 8-21 and conference record to 3-9. Nebraska improved its record to 26-6 overall and remains strong in conference play with an 11-1 mark after securing its tenth consecutive win.
Freshman Isaiah Shayter started for Penn State, pitching just over two innings and allowing eight runs on nine hits while recording two strikeouts and two walks. The bullpen provided solid relief, combining for nearly six shutout innings with four hits allowed, three walks, and four strikeouts among Mason Butash, Dimond Loosli, Ben DeMell, and Mason Horwat.
Offensively, Michael Anderson led the Nittany Lions with two home runs—his twelfth and thirteenth of the season—tying him for seventh most homers in a single season at Penn State alongside several past players. Anderson also achieved his fifth career multi-homer game. Jayden Davis and Jack Porter contributed singles and scored during the contest.
Nebraska totaled eight runs on thirteen hits. Rhett Stokes hit a three-run homer as part of his two-hit performance; Drew Grego added both a double and a home run with two RBI; Josh Overbeek recorded an RBI double while scoring twice.
Looking ahead, Penn State will host FDU on Tuesday, April 7 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park before traveling to Columbus for a three-game series against Ohio State from April 10–12.
