Penn State baseball falls to Rutgers 4-1 at Medlar Field

The Penn State baseball team lost to Rutgers 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. The Nittany Lions took an early lead in the second inning, but Rutgers tied the game in the fifth and moved ahead in the seventh.

This game impacts both teams’ standings, with Penn State now holding a 10-26 overall record (4-13 Big Ten) and Rutgers improving to 20-19 overall (6-11 Big Ten).

Ben Hudson started for Penn State, pitching six and two-thirds innings. He allowed three runs on five hits, struck out six batters, and walked one. Hudson kept Rutgers scoreless through four and two-thirds innings without giving up any extra-base hits. Kyle Emmons pitched one and a third innings, allowing one run on three hits with two walks and a strikeout. Ben DeMell finished with a scoreless eighth inning.

Rutgers pitcher Vincent Borghese went eight innings, surrendering only one run on seven hits while striking out six batters and walking two. Jason Masick closed out the ninth for the save.

For Penn State’s offense, Maddox McDonald had an RBI single that brought home Jack Porter in the second inning. Kevin Karstetter contributed two hits while Jayden Davis hit a double. For Rutgers, Ryan Jaros led with two hits and three runs batted in.

The series will conclude Sunday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m., featuring additional family activities after the game.
