The Penn State baseball team lost 3-2 to Ohio State on April 11 at Bill Davis Stadium. The Nittany Lions narrowed the gap to one run in both the sixth and ninth innings, but were unable to overtake the Buckeyes.
The outcome leaves Penn State with a record of 10-22 overall and 4-10 in Big Ten play, while Ohio State improved its season record to 18-15 and conference mark to 8-6.
After allowing two early runs, the Penn State pitching staff kept Ohio State scoreless for five innings until a sacrifice fly brought in another run for the Buckeyes in the eighth. Ben Hudson started for Penn State, pitching four and two-thirds innings and giving up two runs on two hits with two strikeouts. Mason Butash followed with nearly three innings of relief, surrendering one run on two hits. Ben DeMell finished out the eighth inning.
On offense, Jayden Davis led Penn State with an RBI double among his two hits. Jack Porter added a single and drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Bryce Molinaro singled and scored, while Avery Smith collected two hits as well. The Nittany Lions finished with nine hits but only managed to score twice.
Ohio State recorded three runs on four hits and five walks. Noah Furcht had an RBI double among his two hits; Dane Harvey and Maddix Simpson each contributed an RBI as well.
The game concluded when Preston Yaucher walked in the ninth inning before scoring on Davis’s double, but Penn State was unable to tie or take the lead before recording their final out.
