The Penn State baseball team will finish its 2026 regular season with a three-game series against Maryland, beginning May 14 at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium in College Park. The games are scheduled for Thursday and Friday evenings, followed by a Saturday afternoon matchup, and all will be streamed on B1G+.
This final series holds significance as Penn State looks to build on recent momentum after winning its last series against Washington but falling to Pitt earlier in the week. Under head coach Mike Gambino, the Nittany Lions have achieved 15 wins this season, including eight in Big Ten play. Maryland enters the weekend with a record of 25-28 overall and seven wins in conference games under coach Matt Swope.
The teams have met frequently over the years, with Penn State holding a slight disadvantage in their all-time record against Maryland. Notably, Penn State is coming off a shutout win over Washington—their second shutout of the year and first against a Big Ten opponent since 2021—and saw standout performances from Isaiah Shayter, Dimond Loosli, Ben DeMell and Mason Horwat. Spencer Barnett hit two home runs during the recent game at Pitt.
Senior Michael Anderson has been one of the team’s top performers this season after transferring from Rhode Island and Arkansas. He leads Penn State in several offensive categories and is tied for the program’s single-season home run record with 19. Anderson also ranks among national leaders for home runs and slugging percentage. Bryce Molinaro continues his strong career as well, ranking second all-time at Penn State with 39 homers.
In addition to on-field accomplishments—such as reaching back-to-back Big Ten Tournament Semifinals for the first time since 2000-01—Penn State has seen individual success stories like five players selected in last year’s Major League Baseball draft. Looking ahead, Japanese pitcher Genei Sato is set to join Penn State later this year after signing in December; he is considered a potential first-round pick for next year’s MLB Draft following his standout college career in Japan.
