Dr. Gavin Macgregor-Skinner from the Penn State College of Medicine said that many everyday cleaning products contain chemicals that may increase cancer risk with repeated exposure. He recommended looking for the Environmental Protection Agency’s Safer Choice label when shopping for household cleaners: “EPA scientists review every ingredient in a certified product, not just the active ones, to ensure they meet strict safety standards for human health and the environment.” Macgregor-Skinner added that these certified products are tested to confirm they clean as well as or better than non-certified alternatives.
