The No. 19 Penn State Nittany Lions will play the No. 6-ranked Stanford Cardinal in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on May 8 at UM Lacrosse Stadium in Ann Arbor, with the game set to begin at 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
This matchup marks only the third meeting between Penn State and Stanford, and their first encounter during postseason play. The previous meetings resulted in a win for each team, with Penn State winning in 2015 and Stanford winning in 2016.
Several Penn State players have received recent honors. USA Lacrosse announced that Rocquette Allen, Maggie Driver, and Radin were named USA Lacrosse All-America Honorable Mentions. Radin and Driver earned All-Big Ten First Team selections while Anna Salerno was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team. Allen and Susannah O’Connell made the Big Ten All-Freshman Team, with Allen being a unanimous selection, and Lilly Spilker was chosen as Penn State’s Big Ten Sportsmanship Award Honoree.
Allen earned recognition as Big Ten Freshman of the Year after scoring 45 goals with 22 assists for a total of 67 points—each leading among Big Ten freshmen this season. She also became only the fourth Nittany Lion to receive this award, tying Penn State with Northwestern for most Freshman of the Year honors within the conference.
Junior attacker Radin set new single-season highs across all offensive categories this year, including breaking Penn State’s single-season assists record previously held since 1990 by Megan Smith. MacKinney finished tied for team lead with 45 goals while also recording high assist numbers; her shooting percentage ranked best in conference play.
In goal, Sydney Manning posted career highs in saves and save percentage during her junior campaign and was recognized as Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week following her performance against Ohio State.
Stanford enters Friday’s contest following a loss to North Carolina in their conference title game. Their offense is led by four players who have scored more than forty points each this season.
