Penn State was recognized on Apr. 21 with two major awards from the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association, as Sean Harvey was named Uvaldo Acosta Memorial Player of the Year and Mark Pavlik received the Bob Sweeney Memorial Coach of the Year honor.

The recognition highlights Penn State’s strong performance in the regular season, where they clinched the EIVA title and achieved a perfect conference record. The awards also underscore individual achievements by players and coaching staff.

Harvey led Penn State with a .324 hitting percentage, averaging 4.32 points and 3.57 kills per set, while also contributing defensively with 1.43 digs per set and 0.74 blocks per set. He recorded double-digit kills in most matches this season, including a season-high of 22 kills against Princeton, and recently posted an impressive double-double in a win over George Mason.

Pavlik guided Penn State to an undefeated conference run (12-0) as they secured their 38th regular season title. Under his leadership, Penn State maintained national rankings throughout the year and currently holds a nine-match winning streak entering postseason play. With 714 career wins, Pavlik ranks third all-time among collegiate men’s volleyball coaches across all divisions.

Seven Nittany Lions earned All-EIVA honors: Harvey joined Ryan Merk and Owen Rose on the first team; Gaige Gabriel, Matthew Luoma, and Michael Schwob made second team; Tristan Hassell received honorable mention. Merk led EIVA in digs per set (2.11), Rose ranked first nationally in blocks per set (1.46), Luoma averaged solid offensive numbers including eight matches with double-digit kills, Gabriel helped lead the nation in blocks alongside Rose, Schwob contributed both offensively and defensively at setter during key stretches of play, while Hassell provided valuable contributions off the bench.

Penn State will host this year’s EIVA Tournament at Rec Hall from Wednesday through Saturday, opening play Thursday in the semifinals against either Charleston or Sacred Heart.
