The Penn State men’s lacrosse team defeated Maryland 10-6 on March 21, opening conference play with a win in University Park, Pennsylvania. The game was played before the largest crowd ever at Panzer Stadium, with 2,532 fans in attendance.

This victory marks Penn State’s first win over Maryland since the 2024 season and only the fifth time in program history that the Nittany Lions have beaten the Terrapins. The result is significant as it adds to Penn State’s list of top-ranked wins this season and demonstrates their continued improvement against strong opponents.

Senior Mac Hobbs and sophomore Chase Robertson each scored two goals for Penn State. Redshirt senior Luke Walstrum led all players with four points, including one goal and three assists. Junior Kyle Lehman contributed a goal and two assists while also recording three caused turnovers and four groundballs. Freshman goalkeeper Preston Hawkins posted career bests with 14 saves and a save percentage of 70 percent.

Defensively, Penn State held Eric Spanos—one of the preseason favorites for the Tewaaraton Award—to no points in his return to action since February. The faceoff unit won 11 out of 19 draws against Maryland’s Henry Dodge, who entered the weekend leading the nation by winning nearly seventy percent of his faceoffs.

Coach Tambroni now has three victories over Maryland during his tenure at Penn State. The team will travel next week to play No. 7 Ohio State on Saturday, March 28; that matchup will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
