The Penn State men’s tennis team defeated Washington 4-3 on Apr. 10, bringing their season record to 15-10.
The win is significant as it marks another conference victory for the Nittany Lions, showcasing contributions from both freshmen and sophomores on the team.
Freshmen Eyal Shyovitz and Kyle Chesman each secured singles points during the match. Sophomore Reiya Hattori earned Penn State its first point by defeating Rohan Belday with a score of 6-0, 6-1. The deciding point came from sophomore David Lindsay, who clinched the match for Penn State by overcoming Brett Pearson on court four with scores of 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), and 6-2.
In doubles play, Michael Wright and Lindsay lost to Soham Purohit and Brett Pearson on court one. Christos Glavas and Emil Matikainen were defeated by Belday and Stephane Kamendje on court three. Hattori and Shyovitz’s match against Nikola Plasvic and Hyeonseok Seo was abandoned after Washington secured the doubles point.
Other singles matches saw Chesman defeat Plavsic in spot six with a score of 6-2, 6-3, while Shyovitz beat Seo on court five also at 6-2, 6-3. Schoeman lost to Kamendje on court two in straight sets. Wright dropped his match against Purohit after two sets.
Looking ahead, Penn State will play its final home matches of the season on Sunday, April 12. They are scheduled to face No. 59 Oregon at 11 a.m., followed by St. Bonaventure at 4 p.m.
