The Penn State men’s tennis team lost its match against No. 61 Nebraska on April 17, with a final score of 4-2. The Nittany Lions now hold a season record of 16-12 and are 3-9 in Big Ten play.
This result affects the team’s standing as they approach the end of their regular season, with only one more scheduled match before postseason competition.
Freshman Kyle Chesman secured Penn State’s first point by defeating Niels Van Der Sijs on court five. Another freshman, Eyal Shyovitz, added to the team’s total by winning his singles match against Colson Wells on court six. In doubles play, Michael Wright and Shyovitz were leading their opponents but did not finish their match because Nebraska had already clinched the doubles point. David Lindsay and Christos Glavas lost their doubles contest to Joan Torres Espinosa and Leo Linquet (3-6), while Emil Matikainen and Chesman were defeated by Henry Lamchinniah and Wells (2-6).
In singles action, Schoeman was beaten by Linquet on court two (2-6, 1-6). Glavas dropped his singles match against Espinosa (2-6, 6-2, 3-6). Wright faced No. 122 Sysoev on court one but lost after three sets (7-6 [7-3], 5-7, 4-6). Lindsay’s singles contest against Jeri Lassila was unfinished at the time Nebraska clinched victory.
The Nittany Lions will next travel to face No. 33 Wisconsin for their last regular-season matchup on Sunday, April 19 at 11:30 a.m.
